The phrase “singing to the choir” describes the attention getting pro-immigration marches in our major cities. Local politicians don’t vote in elections. National politicians do and they usually spend most of their time in Washington, rather than their home states.
These politicians’ offices in the Cannon or Rayburn Buildings are far from the steets of Chicago, Los Angeles, or New York. Their intransigent colleagues from Alabama and Kentucky also live in Washington. Ignore Washington and you ignore the most outspoken and likely naive Congressman. Perhaps, they know and think that the immigration laws, new and old, will enforce themselves.
This is why those who have made such an impression in their pro-immigrant Cities need to encourage as many as possible to rally in Washington, soon!
